The Western NSW Eye Health Partnership (WEHP) team recently attended the Koori Knockout in Dubbo, on Wiradjuri Country, joining community members for a great day of footy, family and connection.
The event offered a great opportunity for WEHP to be out in community, connect with families and have conversations about the importance of looking after eye health. WEHP team members spoke with individuals and groups about when they last had an eye check and shared simple messages about the importance of regular eye checks and knowing where to go for support when eye health concerns arise.
RDN Health’s Regional Project Officer for WEHP, Tori Towney, said beyond the eye health conversations, the day was about being present, building relationships and celebrating community.
“It was a great day of footy, family, culture and community spirit and a reminder that improving eye health is about more than services - it’s about building strong relationships and being part of the communities we work alongside,” Tori said.
“Events like the Koori Knockout provide an important opportunity for health services to connect with Aboriginal communities in a welcoming and familiar environment," she said.
The Western NSW Eye Health Partnership is funded by The Fred Hollows Foundation and administered by RDN Health, working with partners and communities across Western NSW to support improved eye health outcomes for Aboriginal people.
